Bryony Burnham is a soprano from Luton, Bedfordshire, who is currently studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance on the vocal performance postgraduate programme. She is a first generation musician, who is passionate about character driven performance and creating work with authenticity and integrity. She is currently studying with tenor Jon Christos and receiving coaching from Eugene Asti, Panaretos Kyriatzidis and Kelvin Lim. Bryony has been the recipient of a number of scholarships and has received generous financial support for her studies from the Kathleen Trust, the Clemence Charitable Trust, Split Infinitive and a number of generous private donors.

Recently, Bryony made her debut at Cadogan Hall, London, where she was invited to perform as the Soprano II soloist in Bach's Magnificat with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Bryony has also performed as the soloist in a number of vocal works including: Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Handel’s Messiah, Respighi’s Il tramonto, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Britten’s Phaedra. In the next few months, Bryony is looking forward to performing in The Merry Widow as Valencienne and competing in The Soloists’ Competition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Bryony has appeared in over thirty operas, appearing in roles such as: Antonia Les contes d’Hoffmann (Hand Made Opera), Hansel Hansel and Gretel (St Albans Chamber Opera), Nancy Albert Herring (University of Birmingham Summer Festival Opera), Dido Dido and Aeneas (Wilmore Singers), Phoebe Yeomen of the Guard (University of Birmingham Gilbert and Sullivan Society), Second Lady The Magic Flute (Bedfordshire Youth Opera) and Fifth spirit Cendrillon (University of North Texas Opera).

Bryony has been accepted on a number of training programmes including: Hand Made Opera, the Abingdon Summer School of Solo Singers, the Italian Opera Summer School, Amalfi Coast Festival of Music and Drama and Bedfordshire Youth Opera. On these programmes, Bryony has worked with artists including: James Gilchrist, Rachel Nicholls, Mary King, Phillip Thomas and Andrew Shore. In 2012/2013, Bryony representing the University of Birmingham as a student ambassador for the Royal Opera House, where she attended monthly meetings at the opera house and collaborated with other student ambassadors from across the country, discussing different ideas to get young people interested in opera and ballet.

Bryony graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2015, achieving a first in vocal performance and winning the University of Birmingham Concerto Competition, where she performed Britten’s Phaedra with the University of Birmingham Summer Festival Sinfonia. She was a member of the University of Birmingham’s Women’s Choir and was under the baton of leading choral conductor, Simon Halsey, and took part in masterclasses with artists such as Wendy Dawn Thompson, Andrew King and Erin Headley’s award-winning ensemble, Atlante. In her third year of study, Bryony spent a year in the United States, studying vocal performance at the University of North Texas.
